One of the essential ingredients in the Mediterranean diet
When we think of Mediterranean food, one of the first ingredients that comes to mind is olive oil. Among the different classes of this product is olive oil, virgin and extra virgin, the latter being the maximum exponent of this substance which, due to its properties and benefits, is known as liquid gold.
Not all olive oils are the same. The taste and smell of olive oil will depend on the quality and variety of olive from which it is extracted. From the Picual variety, typical of southern Spain and with spicy notes that make it perfect to accompany toast, to the Arbequina variety, sweeter and characteristic of the Mediterranean area. A substance that, although it withstands high temperatures well, it is necessary to keep it away from light and heat so that it maintains all its properties. It is recommended to store it in the pantry, in a dark container, away from light and where there are no changes in temperature.
According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs through its social networks, olive oil has antioxidant properties, since the polyphenols in this substance protect the blood from oxidative damage. Although it is not the only benefit that olive oil has in our body, since it also improves blood pressure because several of its active compounds have anti-inflammatory properties.

Other ways in which olive oil helps the heart is that it keeps cholesterol at bay: oleic acid is an unsaturated fat, so it has benefits over saturated fat. Olive oil also provides vitamins A and E, which promotes good eye health and protects cells from oxidative damage.
