The solemn opening ceremony of the II All-Russian Winter Sports Games among amateur athletes took place in the village of Italmas in Udmurtia. It was held at the new stadium named after four-time Olympic champion Galina Kulakova.
The competition will run until February 14th. More than 700 athletes from 34 regions of Russia will take part in the skiing, biathlon, snowboarding, curling and triathlon competitions.
As clarifies udm-info.rufrom February 10 to 13, cross-country skiing and biathlon competitions will be held, from February 11 to 12, the best snowboarder will be determined at the Chekeril sports complex, and until February 12, 16 teams will compete for medals in curling at the Udmurtia CAC.
The games were timed to coincide with two anniversaries of the sport of Udmurtia – the 80th anniversary of Galina Kulakova and the 50th anniversary of the first Olympic gold in Udmurtia.
The initiator of the construction of the stadium on the territory of the school in Italmas was the legendary skier herself. It was equipped with modern football and basketball courts, a pit for long jumps, running tracks, physical training simulators, a covered grandstand for 150 seats, and a place for preparing equipment and storing skis.
The stadium has the opportunity to hold competitions not only at the regional, but also at the federal level.
