They are up and down 250,000 reservations that Alitalia will have to reimburse its passengers. The Italian airline, replaced in the skies last October 15 by Ita, had sold several tickets for the flights following the last day of operations: tickets that, clearly, went unused even and above all after the decision of the EU Commission with which it is Ita was not allowed to inherit the prepaid from the old airline. Precisely for this reason the reimbursement phase will soon begin for these approximately 250,000 passengers: the procedure is about to go live.
Today’s edition of Il Corriere della Sera points out that, with a six-page decree, the Ministry of Economic Development has released the 100 million euros allocated for reimbursements: it is unlikely that the procedure can be started before the beginning of the new year, considering on the one hand the Christmas holidays and on the other the bureaucratic time necessary for the passage of money. In this sense, the government is dealing with at least 22.5 million euros of estimated charges for Alitalia tickets already issued for flights after 15 October and canceled as a result of the start of Ita and 64.2 million euros of vouchers and virtual wallets already returned to passengers and travel agencies. To be clear, official documents explain that during 2021 tickets, vouchers and similar travel documents already subject to reimbursement have been almost 118.1 million euros.
