Neighbors and visitors fill the town on a day that recovers the tradition of setting up a rag doll by the neighborhood, with costumbrista and satirical scenes
After two years of hiatus, the festivals of National Tourist Interest of Los Mayos de Alhama de Murcia returned this weekend with all their strength, joy and colour. This Sunday was the day where the tradition of installing a rag doll by the neighborhood, with costumbrista and satirical scenes, was the real protagonist.
From the early hours of the morning the corremayos, with their colorful and sonorous suits -because of their bells-, visited the 19 planted mayos. The jury, after making the tour under a blazing sun, awarded the first prize to the Peña Pasajeros al tren, which represented a costumbrista scene with several sequences of how people lived in the houses of the orchard. The second prize went to the May of Ezos, located in the park of La Cubana. While the third prize went to the neighborhood association of El Barrio de Los Dolores.
The award for the most critical in this edition went to the El Cocotazo rock, dedicated to public health. While the most traditional was installed by the Archconfraternity of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno. In the school category, the winner was CEIP Ricardo Codorniu, followed by the Azaraque school and finally Ginés Díaz-San Cristóbal. The morning ended with the tasting of a paella for 1,500 corremayos. The predominant note was the large number of participants, both residents and visitors.
