On Saturday, the Algerian authorities contacted those responsible for preserving the bodies at the Kharkiv Hospital in Ukraine, where the body of the Algerian student who was killed during the military operations is located there, in preparation for its transfer to his country.
The uncle of the Algerian student, Kamal Talbi, confirmed, in a previous telephone conversation with “Sky News Arabia”, that the Algerian embassy informed the medical staff in the Ukrainian hospital and his family’s will to preserve the body until it was transferred to Algeria, to complete the burial ceremony in his hometown, in the Islamic way..
The Ukrainian hospital pledged to preserve the body and not bury it anywhere, out of respect for the feelings of the Algerian family.
The student’s uncle indicated that the family is well aware of the difficulty of transporting the body under the current circumstances, and thanks the hospital for the “humanitarian decision” that will contribute to alleviating the pain that afflicted them with the departure of one of their dearest children.
The hospital was able to identify the student through the identification papers he was carrying during the bombing, after he received a bullet fired by a sniper while he was near the entrance to one of the shelters where the residents were sheltering from the bombing.
On February 27, 2022, Algeria announced the death of one of its citizens in Kharkiv, the second largest Ukrainian city, during the Russian bombing, and the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, offered his condolences to the family of the deceased, in a statement by the Presidency of the Republic.
The family of the student in Talsman is still receiving condolences, although more than a week has passed since the accident.
Algerians leave Ukraine “peacefully”
On the other hand, Director of Communication and Information at the Algerian Foreign Ministry, Abdelhamid Abdaoui, said that about 1,400 Algerians have left Ukraine for its neighboring countries since the beginning of the Russian military operation in it.
He added that “most of the Algerians who were evacuated to Algeria are students,” noting that their number reached about 76 students.
Abdaoui also noted that no new deaths have been recorded in the Algerian community in Ukraine, stressing that “the priority of public authorities’ priorities is the protection of Algerian nationals abroad.”
The official added, “The state’s policy refuses to participate in any conflict, and there are those who want to involve Algeria in the conflict. We are working on programming new evacuation flights according to the request of Algerian nationals.”
