Today, Saturday, Algerian Presidents Abdelmadjid Tebboune and French Emmanuel Macron expressed their desire to “deepen” relations between the two countries.
The Algerian presidency said, in a statement, that the two presidents discussed, during a phone call, “bilateral relations, affirming their determination to deepen them…especially after the re-election of President Macron for a new term.”
Tebboune and Macron also dealt with “several files, foremost of which are the issues of the coast and the situation in Libya, in addition to regional and international issues of common interest.”
The call comes on the eve of the second round of the French parliamentary elections, which Macron seeks to enable him to obtain a parliamentary majority.
The Algerian president had congratulated Emmanuel Macron at the end of April on his re-election and invited him to visit Algeria to strengthen relations after some differences between the two countries.
France and Algeria have been trying for months to give a new impetus to their relations after turning that page.
