At the end of a day that forced hundreds of spectators to wait for hours in the rain for a GP that never started, there were several riders and teams who wanted to thank and apologize to the fans for what happened in Spa-Francorchamps. In this sense, theAlfa Romeo wanted to launch a particular message exclusively dedicated to all those who have not been able to enjoy the show on the track, avoiding any kind of comment on the race weekend or on the activity on the track.
In a press release issued by the Swiss team, it wanted to thank “All of you incredible fans – it is read – for waiting hours in the hope that the race would start: with your patience and determination, you are the real “Drivers of the Day”. For months we have been trying to get back the stands full of fans ready to support our team and our sport: unfortunately, we didn’t have the opportunity to give you this show yesterday ”.
The Alfa Romeo message then continued with other considerations mainly related to the issue of safety: “The decision not to race in these conditions – can be seen in the press release – it was right, in the interest of protecting the safety of the pilots, marshals and also for the spectators. In any case, the situation could have been managed more appropriately and not with that “race” we witnessed yesterday. This result hurts us, but in particular hurts fans of this sport, who did not come to witness what they saw ”.
Finally, the Swiss team wanted to send a message of hope in view of the future, thanking all the spectators again: “We hope we learned yesterday’s lesson – concludes the team – which will help us to improve the way we operate and put the public in the conditions in which it deserves to be. Once again, thank you very much to all the fans. You have been the only ray of light yesterday in Spa “.
