Hundreds of people have been evacuated from their homes.

A large fire is spreading on the eastern outskirts of Rome causing columns of smoke that can be seen from the center of the capital and some buildings have had to be evacuated.

According to a first reconstruction, the flames began at 5:30 p.m. in bush areas next to Palmiro Togliatti avenue and then reached at least one of the car wrecks present on nearby Tuscolana street. Some citizens have heard some explosions, reported the local media and in the area there are teams of firefighters and also of the Police, police and agents of the Local Police.

In the photographs released by citizens, it can be seen that the fire is very close to the inhabited areas of the Centocelle and Cinecitta neighborhoods. At the moment, no one has been injured, but the smoke has reached Fadda Street and the inhabitants of several buildings have been evacuated. The president of the V municipality, Mauro Caliste, affirmed that the fire is spreading due to the strong wind and that the “situation is dramatic.”

All citizens were advised to keep their windows closed and wear masks also on the street in the area affected by the dense cloud of smoke. Lazio’s health adviser, Alessio D’Amato, explained that all hospitals in
Rome have been alerted to the possibility of patients arriving with respiratory problems.
