Governor Geraldo Alckmin publicly admitted this Tuesday, 10, for the first time, that he will leave the PSDB, an acronym to which he has been affiliated since 1988, to dispute the state government for another party. In an interview with TV Tribuna de Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, Alckmin was asked about the news that he would leave the subtitle of which he was one of the founders, as anticipated by state. “I really must leave. The definition will be in the coming weeks”, he said
In a reserved character, allies of the governor say that the official announcement will be on August 28th. For now, Alckmin is not yet to talk about his new party, but Gilberto Kassab’s PSD is the most likely fate. Alckmin and former governor Marcio França (PSB) are very close and should share the same platform next year, in a coalition that should have the president of Fiesp, Paulo Skaf, as a candidate for the Senate.
Founder of the party – of which he is proud to have the signature No. 7 – Alckmin was isolated in the PSDB when Governor João Doria, who was his political “godson”, decided to join his vice-president, Rodrigo Garcia, in the PSDB to dispute the Palácio dos Bandeirantes , while he plans to run for the presidency.
In recent weeks, Doria’s interlocutors tried to open a channel of dialogue with Alckmin and signaled that he could run for the Senate in the seat that is now José Serra. At a dinner in early August, in the capital, toucans close to the former governor tried to convince him to stay in the party and compete in caucuses against Rodrigo Garcia. The former governor, however, told the allies that he would not be able to face the government machine, according to toucans heard by the report.
