The whole race with problems
Shrimp step for the Williams in the first race of this season, with both Grove team drivers finishing the Bahrain Grand Prix in positions further back than those occupied on the starting grid. Just think about Alex Albonstarted from a good 13th place but finished 15th at the finish line.
His American teammate did even worse Logan Sargeant: 18th at the start, the American made a mistake entering turn 4, going too far under braking and losing a lot of time, to the point of finishing the race in last position. Furthermore, both drivers experienced rather high engine temperatures.
From the power unit to the steering wheel electronics
An aspect that was also highlighted by Albon, who also returned to the difficulties of the pre-season tests and the three days available for all the teams: “The car was okay, but we are very far behind – he has declared – we had problems throughout the race with things that, if we had done more tests, we could have avoided. There was a overheating throughout the race and we had a drop in power, so hopefully we can look at the data and arrive in Jeddah in better condition. Our pace compared to the others is quite similar, so the battle in midfield is close and will be tough.”
Temperature problems that Sargeant also highlighted, as well as other headaches: “It was frustrating because the steering wheel electronics problem he showed up yesterday in qualifying and then came back today, so the most important thing is that we need to understand the cause of this problem and solve it in the future – he added – we had a great first lap and a great opening stint, making some gains and it seemed to be coming to me before I had the problem. We struggled a bit with the PU temperature, meaning I couldn't stay close to the cars in front of us, so it was a bit of a disappointing evening. There's nothing that can't be fixed, but we need to understand how to proceed.”
