Super stint by Albon
Day 3 encouraging for the Williams in Bahrain, with the historic British manufacturer having concluded its pre-season tests without the technical problems that had hindered its work in the previous two days. On the track with solo Alexander Albon throughout the day, the Anglo-Thai driver completed 120 laps (the most active today), finishing in sixth position with the time of 1:30.984.
The team focused above all on race simulation, faced with two sets of tires and at different fuel loads. A program that satisfied the entire team and the driver himself, who in a recent interview was amazed by the progress of the single-seater, to the point of stating that he felt like he was in another team.
“First of all, we have a decent car to race with – he declared at the end of the last day of testing – I think we struggled a bit with the car on the first and second day due to its differences and the difficulty in rebalancing it, but we've made some big steps forward to make it more drivable. As the characteristics of the car changed, we moved some of our historical problems into different areas. We still managed to fix some of them, but unfortunately along the way we found some things we didn't like. Despite this, we did a bit of a radical setup today and that worked out for the best. Looking at the rest of the grid, the centrogroup became very closed, with everyone making a big jump from last year, so it's all pretty equal across the lineup. This year it will be all about details and potential tracks that fit better than others, so there will be a lot of interesting battles.”
