The historic No Tav leader, Alberto Perino, who fought until the end against the construction of the high-capacity railway line between Turin and Lyon, has died at the age of 78. The family and the No Tav Committee reported the news.
The man, one of the historical faces of the No Tav Movement in Val di Susa, died late yesterday evening after a long illness. His motto, how remember Adnkronoswas “It will be tough”, with which he had participated in dozens of protest marches over the years.
“Late yesterday evening, Thursday 3 October, Alberto Perino left us. Remembering his monumental figure for the Susa Valley and for the entire No Tav Movement is difficult in these hours of extreme pain. The void it leaves us will be unbridgeable.” writes the No Tav Committee on Notav.info. “But one thing is certain: throughout his life he was able to convey to all of us the desire to fight against all injustice and environmental devastation. If Valsusa has resisted for thirty years it is also and above all thanks to him. The whole movement holds tight to Bianca and her family in this tragic moment.”
Perino’s cousin, Chiara Sasso, writer and No Tav activist also wanted to remember him with a letter sent to the portal: “Until the end he made his life available. The email he sent to the committees a few days ago ensured his presence (at the cost of going by ambulance) on Sunday 13 October at the San Giuliano garrison. A text that says a lot about how much he was willing to do and get involved. ‘Let’s make some noise’ he wrote,” Sasso recalled. “He was capable of great brushwork but also of immense love towards everyone. His body 18 emails will resonate for a long time as his voice in all of us. Let’s make some noise!”.
