Al-Sisi’s speech came in a joint press conference with the President of the Yemeni Presidency Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, after talks that also included a number of council members who are currently visiting Egypt.
Al-Sisi said that the unity, stability and territorial integrity of Yemen is of paramount importance to Egypt and the Arab world.
He added that his country supports all efforts aimed at achieving peace in Yemen, in accordance with the references of the Yemeni national dialogue, the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanisms, and the results of the recent right-wing consultations in Riyadh under the auspices of the Gulf Cooperation Council and relevant Security Council resolutions.
The Egyptian president said that during his talks with Al-Alimi and his deputies, he reiterated Egypt’s welcome to the United Nations’ announcement earlier this month to extend the armistice agreement, and “our appreciation for the legitimate Yemeni government’s efforts to respect its obligations in accordance with the terms of the agreement and our call on all parties to fully implement the terms of the agreement.”
Cairo and Sanaa flights
Al-Sisi pointed to Egypt’s response to the right-wing legitimate authority and the United Nations by facilitating flights between Cairo and Sana’a, emphasizing Egypt’s keenness to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and support all efforts in their favour.
He said that the discussions he had with the right-wing President of the Presidency Council included how to secure navigation in the Bab al-Mandab strait, the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf, and the linkage of this task with regional and international security.
For his part, Al-Alimi stressed the importance of the Egyptian position in support of legitimacy in the face of the Iranian-backed Houthi coup.
Al-Alimi added that “the discussions with the Egyptian president dealt with how to provide appropriate support to help the legitimate authority unify the security forces in the liberated provinces and areas.”
He noted that “there is complete and complete coordination between the legitimate authority and the Saudi-led coalition to support legitimacy to work to end the suffering of the Yemeni people.”
Al-Alimi said that during his talks with the Egyptian President, he renewed his country’s support for Egypt in the issue of the Renaissance Dam and its legitimate right.
He added that he and Sisi renewed during the talks the warning of the sinking of the oil tanker Safer, and the environmental disasters that may arise from that.
