Abu Dhabi (Etihad)
On Friday evening, May 3, the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation organized a book signing ceremony for the book “War Happening in Mainland Egypt Now” by novelist Youssef Al-Qaid, winner of the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Award in the field of stories, novels and plays, 14th session.
Al-Qaid spoke about the conditions of writing in Egypt since the 1960s, recalling the most prominent cultural symbols at that time and reviewing the social life of creative people such as Gamal Al-Ghitani, Muhammad Hassanein Heikal, Naguib Mahfouz, and other writers.
Al-Qaid also spoke at length about his relationship with director Salah Abu Saif, who directed the film “The Egyptian Citizen,” based on the novel The War in Mainland Egypt. He said that he knew Salah Abu Saif through Naguib Mahfouz, as they were sitting in a place near Reesh Café, and he was Naguib Mahfouz. Very organized, as he sits with director Salah Abu Seif and then comes to sit with us. When I learned that Naguib Mahfouz was going to sit with director Salah Abu Seif, I asked him to go with him once to meet Salah Abu Seif, and the cooperation was to transform the novel into a film.
