His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, attended the high-level ministerial meeting, which included ministers and representatives of member states, where His Excellency explained, in his speech, the importance of the BRICS meetings, and the aspirations of the UAE for effective participation and its strong and effective support for “ BRICS to achieve its goals and enrich its role in the field of international cooperation towards achieving sustainable development, stressing the state’s keenness to cooperate with the countries of the group to develop sustainable policies and effective solutions for the transport path, and to exchange experiences in this field, in the interest of strengthening international cooperation and coordinating policies that enhance sustainable transport.
His Excellency stressed that the UAE is keen to cooperate with the BRICS countries in improving connectivity, diversifying logistical supply chains, and developing international transport routes that serve common interests, and that it looks forward to more fruitful work and coordination between the countries of the group, by searching for effective solutions to the challenges. Associated with the integration of multiple modes of transportation, as this holds great importance for economic and social prosperity.
Regarding the UAE’s efforts in smart mobility, His Excellency explained that the country has set its ambitious goals for the effective transformation of the smart mobility system by 2031, which focused on increasing the percentage of trips that use sustainable means of transportation to 30% of the total trips, and expanding the use of self-driving vehicles to include 15%. of local trips, in addition to enhancing public and mass transportation by 25% of all trips, and raising public transportation user satisfaction to 96%.
Regarding the maritime transport system, His Excellency Suhail Al Mazrouei said: “The maritime sector is a major economic engine for the UAE, as its contribution to the gross domestic product exceeds 34 billion US dollars. The UAE has a strong local maritime industry that includes more than 863 national ships, while providing support For more than 27,000 national and international companies.
His Excellency continued: “The UAE is a leading player in the global maritime industry, as it has achieved leading global positions that have strengthened its position, as it ranked third in the world as a supplier of ship fuel, while it is considered one of the five most important global maritime centers, while the country was ranked eighth in the world.” in container handling efficiency, and ninth in the global port service efficiency index.”
At the level of land transport, His Excellency explained that the sector’s contributions to the UAE’s gross domestic product exceed 4 billion US dollars, which highlights its vital role in the country’s economic success. In an effort by the state to enhance the efficiency and quality of road infrastructure, it invested 6 billion US dollars, which qualified it to rank fifth globally and first in the Arab world in road quality. His Excellency highlighted the Etihad Railway Network project, which connects the Emirates over a length of 1,200 km, and its vital role in reducing transportation costs and local supply chains.
He also explained the role of electric vehicles and the urgent need to promote green mobility and accelerate the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions resulting from the transportation sector.
His Excellency added: “Our electric vehicle market is growing steadily, as we plan to increase the share of electric and hybrid vehicles to 50% of the total vehicles on the country’s roads by 2050, while their share at the end of last year reached 3% of all vehicles, and more than 800 chargers cover various parts of the country.” UAE”.
