Naci Ünüvar went through the representative youth teams of Orange, but he will now become an international of Turkey. The 19-year-old Zaandammer has decided to represent that country from now on. “I hope to achieve many successes with the Turkish national team,” Ünüvar wrote on Instagram, with an image of himself in a Turkish shirt.
The 1.68 meter tall Ünüvar is still under contract with Ajax until the summer of 2026, which has loaned him to the Turkish champion Trabzonspor this season. The attacker played seven games in the Turkish league, including one as a basic player. Ünüvar also scored one goal. In the Turkish Cup, he scored twice in two matches.
Ünüvar’s parents were born in the Netherlands, but of Turkish descent. He can therefore represent that country. The Ajax player became European champion in 2019 with the Dutch under-17s. Ünüvar scored a goal as a substitute in the 4-2 win against Italy.
In recent years, the Zaandammer has been a regular force at Jong Ajax in the Kitchen Champion Division, where he scored 24 goals and 18 assists in 73 matches. It did not yet come to a debut in the premier league. He did already play for the Amsterdam main force in the cup tournament. Ünüvar is fixed at Ajax until the summer of 2026.
