Airlines have scheduled 134.2 million seats and almost 765,000 commercial operations at the airports of the Aena network in Spain for the winter season that begins tomorrow, Sunday, 5.6% and 4.7% more than the previous year.
The winter season will last until March 29, 2025. The airports from which the most seats are offered are Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 33.4 million (5.2% more than in 2023) and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 25.2 million (5.5% more).
They are followed by the Málaga-Costa del Sol airports, with 9.7 million (+8.2%); Gran Canaria, with 9.1 million (+6.1%); Tenerife South, with 7.9 million (+6.5%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 7.3 million (+12.8%); and Palma de Mallorca, with 7.3 million (+5.4%).
However, the airports that register a greater increase in seats offered in their winter programming are those of Menorca (+23.1%), Badajoz (+18.7%) and Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén (+14.8%).
The winter season has a total of 2,440 routes (1,898 international and 542 national), which is 133 more compared to the same period last year.
The airports that have a greater number of additional routes compared to the previous winter season are those of Adolfos Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 33 more routes; Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat (+23); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández (+16); Palma de Mallorca (+14); Fuerteventura (+14); and Málaga-Costa del Sol (+10).
By geographical area, the European market stands out, with almost 73 million seats, a 6.5% more compared to the previous winter seasonand domestic, with 46.5 million seats, 3.1% more. The market that is growing the most in percentage terms is Asia-Pacific, with a growth of 51.9% and more than 924,000 scheduled seats.
After Spain, with 46.5 million seats offeredthe countries where airlines have scheduled the greatest number of seats for the winter season are the United Kingdom, with 16.4 million (+2%); Germany, with 10.7 million (+5.3%); Italy, with 9 million (+17.1%); France, with 6.4 million (-1.2%); and the Netherlands, with 4.2 million scheduled seats (+7.4%).
Among the main destinationsthose that grow the most in percentage terms are Bulgaria (+86.3% of seats offered compared to 2023); Algeria (+65.5%); China (+56.8%); Hungary (+51.8%); and Romania (+34.9%).
