President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced on Wednesday (29) measures to rebuild Rio Grande do Sul. In a statement, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Farming (MDA) said that the contribution of resources represents an increase of R$600 million to the Operations Guarantee Fund (FGO) to cover credit operations under the National Program for Strengthening Family Farming ( Pronaf) and the National Support Program for Medium Rural Producers contracted by family farmers affected by climate tragedies. “Farmers and family farmers in Rio Grande do Sul will be able to easily access this emergency line in RS, which should leverage R$4 billion to help rebuild family farming in the State,” said Minister Paulo Teixeira. “The line has the following benefits: up to 10 years to pay, 3 years grace period and a discount (rebate) of 30% on the global contract value. The limit of this discount is R$25,000 for family farmers in municipalities experiencing a public calamity and R$20,000 in municipalities experiencing an emergency.
