The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) announced that the candidate of the United Arab Emirates, Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, won the position of President of “Interpol” for a term of four years, during the organization’s general assembly meeting, which was held yesterday in Istanbul.
Raissi won 104 votes out of a total of 151 votes, 61% of the total number of countries that voted in the elections, compared to 47 votes obtained by his opponent from the Czech Republic.

The UAE was elected at the 89th General Assembly of the International Organization, which was held in Istanbul, Turkey, in the presence of representatives of all member states, at the meeting that discussed over three days a number of global security issues and ways to enhance international cooperation in combating crime, as well as holding elections for positions The main leadership. Al-Raisi, who previously served as the delegate of the Executive Committee in Asia, was elected for a four-year term as the President of the organization, and the General Assembly elected seven members of the Executive Committee.
Major General Dr. Ahmed Al Raisi stressed in his speech after the vote that this victory is a culmination of the UAE’s good reputation with the vision of its leadership, the outcome of its dedicated work, and its continuous global efforts to enhance international action and humanitarian response in crisis situations, and to ensure international peace and security, and to consolidate the language of dialogue among the peoples of the world.
“I will do everything in my power to ensure that INTERPOL is maintained as an organization that meets the needs of its member states and the needs of the global community in our fight against crime… After all, we share the same goals and work together for a safer world,” he said.

Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi has been the Inspector General of the Ministry of Interior in the UAE since 2015.
