Congressmen from the Agricultural Parliamentary Front were received at Palácio da Alvorada by the president and ministers
The FPA (Parliamentary Agricultural Front) declared support for the president and candidate for reelection, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), in the 2nd round of elections. The agribusiness bench, which already makes up the support group for the Chief Executive in Congress, was received at Palácio da Alvorada by the president and ministers.
“We couldn’t make another decision. The agribusiness bench in the National Congress took sides with the paths to the right, the paths with righteousness, with faith in God, the paths of freedom, the paths of reducing the cost of production and the production of quality food that reach the Brazilian citizen’s table”, said Sérgio Souza (MDB-PR), president of the FPA, in a conversation with journalists.
According to the FPA’s advisory, 32 deputies and 9 senators participated in the meeting, including reelected and newly elected members. Former agriculture minister and senator-elect Tereza Cristina (PP) said that in 2018 the bench also declared its support for Bolsonaro. The president chose her as minister after the FPA nominated Tereza Cristina for the position.
“We have no doubt that the president is the president [que] gave more support to Brazilian agriculture […] That is why the entire agro, small, medium and large rural producers, are closed with the candidacy and re-election of the president”, said Teresa Cristina.
Throughout his term, Bolsonaro has praised the agribusiness sector, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. He stated that the sector is a “pride” for the country and that in previous governments was “stigmatized”.
“We have an excellent cadre of newly elected parliamentarians and other re-elected parliamentarians for the House and Senate. […] Now it will be practically 100% this good understanding [com o Executivo], the ground is plowed, the land is ready to be sown and reaped. And who will reap it? The Brazilian people” said the president.
Present at the meeting, Minister Joaquim Leite (Environment) stated that the government makes policies together with the private sector. “The agro along with the environment work together in the Bolsonaro government“, said. In addition to him, Minister Célio Faria Júnior (General Secretary) also participated in the meeting.
