Mexico.- Reyna Celeste Ascencio, deputy of Morena, proposed a reform to stop donations from abroad for civil organizationsand that are destined to lobby or litigate in Mexico.
The initiative presented by the deputy of Morena seeks to prevent the international donations to NGOs are used to hinder projects such as those of the federal government, in addition to seeking to promote or delay laws.
“In the event that organizations receive direct or indirect donations from foreign governments or private corporations they will not be able to carry out the activities referred to in this section III (influencing the legislation or undertaking strategic litigation actions)”, indicates the initiative presented on February 22, 2022 before the Chamber of Deputies.
The proposal It would force the associations to inform the SAT and the Ministry of the Interior of the amount of the donationsto break down its origin and specify the percentage it constitutes of its total income.

The initiative indicates that organizations such as Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity (MCCI) have sought to obstruct the Santa Lucía airport or the Mayan Train with shelters.
