I.In the case of the fatal boat accident on Lake Garda, the suspect from Germany surrendered. He is now in custody in the northern Italian city of Brescia, a spokesman for his law firm told the German press agency on Monday. Accordingly, the 52-year-old from Munich turned himself over to the authorities on Monday night in the village of Brenner in South Tyrol on the Italian-Austrian border. The Carabinieri would then have driven him to Brescia.
The authorities had previously issued a European arrest warrant for him to be wanted. He is accused of having rammed an Italian couple’s boat on Lake Garda in a motorboat a little more than two weeks ago with a German of the same age. A 37-year-old man and his 25-year-old companion lost their lives in the process.
The two Germans are said not to have stopped to help, which is why the public prosecutor’s office is investigating failure to provide assistance and manslaughter. According to their defense attorney, the two had testified that they had not noticed the clash. The now arrested man is said to have driven the motorboat at the time.
