After the opposition pressure, the Council of the Magistracy summoned for this Friday a meeting of the Discipline and Accusation Commission in which a series of evidentiary measures will be discussed to advance in the disciplinary file against the controversial federal judge from Mendoza Walter Bento, prosecuted for bribery, laundering, illicit enrichment and illicit association.
The case could end in impeachment against the magistrate that according to the Justice he led a gang that was dedicated to committing serious crimes, among others, collecting money to free prisoners.
On Tuesday, the opposition councilor and PRO deputy Pablo Tonelli had sent a letter to the president of the Disciplinary Commission, the Senator of the Frente de Todos, María Inés Pilatti de Vergara, in which he asked her to urgently summon a meeting to address a series of evidence measures against Bento. A form of pressure before the delays in advancing with the file on the part of the ruling party.
In the letter, he reminded her that the request had already been made a fortnight ago and had received no response. After Tonelli’s letter, this Wednesday Pilatti de Vergara summoned a meeting of the Disciplinary Commission where the proposed test measures will begin to be discussed.
Tonelli, who is in charge of the investigation against Bento in the Magistrature, wants order an accounting expertise on the assets and assets of the judge. In addition, he requested that the sworn statements of the magistrate that are in the Council under reservation be opened. It is the same request made by the Mendoza federal judge investigating Bento, Eduardo Puigdéngolas, and until now there has been no response.
One of the raids in the case against Judge Walter Bento.
What’s more, Tonelli asked that a measure that Bento had requested be discarded and that he was targeting the prosecutor investigating Dante Vega. He wanted me to check the prosecutor’s calls to see if he had spoken to journalists.
In the ruling party there is not too much rush to deal with the Bento case. They seek to delay as much as possible the file that could end with their displacement.
The judge, in addition to managing a federal court, has electoral jurisdiction and comes from ruling in favor of Kirchnerism. He enabled the collectors requested by the Frente de Todos in Mendoza and asked to investigate Governor Rodolfo Suárez’s candidacy for senator as unconstitutional.
Bento is a powerful judge who arrived at Federal Court 1 in Mendoza in 2005 and was proposed by Néstor Kirchner, who at that time sent his shortlist to the Senate for approval. He had good relations not only with Peronism but also with Mendoza’s radicalism.
Today, despite being processed, Bento is still in office since he has no conviction. His assets were inhibited and he has an embargo for 327 million pesos that also falls on his wife Marta Boiza, also a judicial career.
Part of the case investigates how he made his fortune, which for Justice is impossible to explain. In your history appear regular trips to Miami and Las Vegas with stays of more than one month, three Audi cars, one Amarok pickup, 12 million dollar real estate and investments in trusts. One of the vehicles was bought even under the disability regime: it does not pay patents and was bought at a lower price.
