The ski tourer was once again lucky in misfortune. It had broken into a crevasse, but was recovered by a group of skiers an hour later.
Gmunden – A 40-year-old Austrian showed himself to be fairly unimpressed by a fall into a twelve-meter-deep crevasse. After being rescued, he refused a precautionary stay in the clinic and instead took the cable car down to the valley, as the authorities reported on Monday.
The ski tourer wanted to ski down the Hallstatt Glacier in the Dachstein Mountains on Sunday and broke through the snow.
A mountain guide with his group observed the incident and alerted the rescue workers. After an hour, the well-equipped 40-year-old was rescued. A soft blanket of snow had dampened its impact. He complained of shortness of breath and hypothermia, but said he refused further treatment after the emergency doctor’s examination. dpa
