President Andrés López Obrador affirmed this Monday that his government continues working to prevent more blackouts like those registered last week, and highlighted that, fortunately, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) controls the entire electricity distribution system. electric power.
In his morning press conference at the National Palace, the president said that more than half of the electricity generation was in charge of private companies.
The Tabasco native pointed out that the State generated only 38 percent of the electrical energy and the private sector 62 percent.
The plan that the privatizing conservatives had was to end the Federal Electricity Commissiondestroy it.
“If this had continued, if we had not arrived, by the will of the people, with a lot of effort, you have already seen how judges annulled an electrical law, canceled an electrical law that Congress approved, and With a lot of effort it has been possible to have a 50 percent generation,” said López Obrador.
“We are going to reach 60 in a few more months, because we bought 11 Iberdrola plants, precisely so that the Commission has more presence in energy generation and that electricity prices do not increase, since that depends on us”
When they are individuals, they decide, as happens in other countries, the head of the Executive pointed out.
“Now that this special situation occurs because there has been a lot of heat, there has also been more consumption, so we had a problem last week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we are organized so that the entire system is not affected,” highlighted the president.
He highlighted that fortunately the CFE controls the entire distribution system, because it was not privatized and it helps a lot so that, if there is a lack of electricity from a state, it can be transmitted from other plants, from other states, whether from a hydroelectric or thermoelectric plant.
We are working on that, and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday we no longer had problems, said López Obrador.
The President stated that there were blackouts in Mexico City last Friday, but it was due to the intense winds knocking down trees and transformers.
“We are still pending, today, tomorrow, the day after, because, as is public knowledge, there is a lot of heat and there is a lot of demand, however we are pending so that we do not have a problem,” highlighted the Tabasco native.
Chilango Debate
President López Obrador was also asked about his point of view on the third Chilango Debate between the candidates for the government of Mexico City, held on Sunday, between Clara Brugada, Santiago Taboada and Salomón Chertorivski.
“I can’t comment on that, and I’m not objective, you know. There is a person who participates, well, what can I tell you,” said the president about Clara Brugada.
López Obrador recalled that he met Brugada more than 30 years ago, when he was the protagonist of the exodus for democracy, from Tabasco to Mexico City, in 1991.
“There, in a town in this city, I met a person, and that is why I cannot be objective, that is, I apologize but I cannot…”
