Boni is the last supermarket company to change tack. In two years’ time, it will introduce the animal protection label (Beter Leven star) for fresh chicken. This is confirmed by Frank Klören, financial director of Boni. In recent months, more and more chains, including AH and Jumbo, have indicated that they are switching to meat from chickens that have had a better life. “Especially since market leader Albert Heijn announced last March to only put chicken on the shelves with at least one star from 2023, things have gone fast. Recently, Spar, DekaMarkt and Hoogvliet came over the bridge and eventually Boni as well. Our list is complete, this is a huge milestone”, says Anne Hilhorst of Wakker Dier.
