Ali Maali (Dubai)
The new council of the Arab Basketball Federation began exercising its duties after stabilizing all positions in the new council and renewing confidence in Major General “M” Ismail Al Gergawi as president of the federation by acclamation in the elections that took place in Dubai on the sidelines of the 24th Arab National Team Championship. The new council witnessed the presence of 6 new members who are Tunisian Ali Benzarti, who holds the position of Vice-President of the Federation for the Maghreb region, Nadim Hakim, candidate for the Lebanese Federation, President of Beirut Club, Noura Al-Suwaidi from the UAE, Vice-President of the Federation, Bouarifi Rabeh from Algeria, Awaid Al-Anzi from Kuwait and Rehab Taha Al-Ghannam from Egypt for membership in the Council.
The President retained his position alongside Dr. Magdi Abu Farikha, Vice President for the Central Region, Abdul Rahman Al-Massad, Vice-President for the Arab Gulf Region, Hassan Yousef from the Central Region, Abdul Sattar Al Hamdani for the Arab Mashreq Region, and Ibrahim Habash for the State of Palestine.
At the level of committees, three were created: the International Relations Committee headed by Ismail Al-Gergawi and the membership of Ali Al-Banzarti, Muhammad Abdulmutallab and Akram Al-Halabi, the Technical Management Committee headed by Abdul Rahman Al-Massad and the membership of Abdul-Sattar Al-Hamdani and Bouarifi Rabeh, and the Marketing Committee headed by Nadim Hakim and the membership of Muhammad Al-Mutairi from Kuwait, Nasser Al-Kaabi from Qatar and Osama Faisal from Sudan Ali Benzarti is from Tunisia. As for the rest of the committees, they are the Technical and Competitions Committee headed by Dr. Magdi Abu Farikha, the Media and Public Relations Committee headed by Muhammad Abdullah Al Zarouni, head of the Executive Office of the Basketball Federation, the Coaches Committee headed by the Tunisian Dr. Mounir bin Habib, Technical Director of the Emirates Federation, the Women’s Committee headed by Emirati Noura Al Suwaidi, and Committee 3/ 3 headed by the Egyptian Rehab Al-Ghanam.
And it was decided to appoint the Moroccan Abdel Raouf bin Taleb, the vice president of the Maghreb region, in the previous session, as an advisor to the president of the federation, and it was decided to re-form the technical office of the president of the federation headed by Ismail Al Gergawi.
For his part, Major General Ismail Al Gergawi, President of the UAE and Arab Federations, confirmed that the directives of His Excellency Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Chairman of the General Sports Authority and First Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee, are the greatest motivation for the Arab Federation to raise the level of the game locally and in the Arab world, saying: The Minister confirmed the support of the UAE and Arab Federations. And also all the tournaments that are held in the Emirates,” stressing that the Arab Federation awaits many challenges during the new session, however, they are keen to set up their programs and competitions on time and strive to develop the game in order to reach the continental and international levels, expressing his optimism for the future of the game.
