Annalena Baerbock will answer the questions in a panel discussion. The Chancellor candidate of the Greens positions herself in Climate Protection and Nord Stream 2.
Frankfurt am Main – The election campaign is slowly but surely entering the home straight. The Greens recently experienced some setbacks with Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock after a good start. The co-chair of the Greens had to correct information in her résumé, admit additional income that had been reported and was faced with allegations of plagiarism in her new book. As a result, Baerbock’s approval ratings in polls for the federal election fell.
In the panel interview of the Frankfurter Rundschau the chancellor candidate admitted mistakes. She is annoyed that the “debate about the book has distracted from what we should actually be discussing in this election campaign: namely how we can renew this country together.” But Baerbock was combative. And does not want to give up at the first headwind, but rather “take responsibility.”
Green Chancellor candidate Baerbock: “Experience that the climate crisis is now”
The Green politician prefers to devote herself to the current problems in the Federal Republic, especially the flood disasters in several federal states. The events in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate or Bavaria had shown one thing in a painful way. “We are experiencing that the climate crisis is now. Not just elsewhere, also at our location, ”said Baerbock. She and her party received massive abuse in 2013 for advocating a complete switch to renewable energies. “You can see how we wasted eight years.”
After the tragic storms, however, it is not a matter of assigning blame. Rather, the flood disasters are a kind of wake-up call. “Now more than ever” is the motto. You have to give the “municipalities and cities money so that they can better protect themselves against extreme weather events.”
Annalena Baerbock: Bavaria’s Prime Minister Söder has “massively blocked the expansion of wind power”
When asked about the climate protection program presented by Markus Söder in Munich on Wednesday (July 21), Baerbock was skeptical. You do not make climate protection for the good of your own party. “I do climate protection because I want my children, when they are 40 years old like me, to be able to go out on summer days.”
When Söder (CSU) announces a “climate jolt”, “it mustn’t be just a rhetorical jolt. Because no wind turbines are built from it. “The Prime Minister has so far” massively blocked the expansion of wind power. If you want to get out of coal, you have to expand wind power. ”The Chancellor candidate of the Greens plans to expand“ wind power to two percent of the land area ”in all federal states in the event of an election victory by means of an immediate climate protection program.
Green Chancellor candidate Baerbock considers gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 “wrong”
As Bavaria’s head of state proclaimed a year as a goal of climate neutrality, Baerbock is also not enough. “Climate protection is now,” said the Greens leader. Measures must be taken immediately in order to benefit from them in the medium to long term and to achieve the goals set.
Baerbock rejected the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Russia. “I think this project is wrong,” the 40-year-old clearly stated. If you want to be climate-neutral by 2050, but for contractual reasons, gas should flow through the pipeline by 2060, “then it doesn’t fit in front and behind.” The interests of Ukraine also torpedo Nord Stream 2.
