The AfD traditionally advocates a close relationship with Moscow. And now? At the closed conference, the party wants to develop a position on the Ukraine war – participants report “controversies”.
Berlin – The AfD parliamentary group is struggling for its position on the war in Ukraine at a closed conference in Oberhof in Thuringia.
Participants reported to the German Press Agency on an intensive and constructive debate on a joint paper. Sometimes every word is wrestled with. A controversial topic are sanctions against Russia.
“Of course there is a lot of controversy,” said Stephan Brandner, parliamentary director of the parliamentary group, the dpa. He spoke out in favor of paying attention to the extent to which sanctions against Russia could damage Germany.
Observation of the AfD by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution is an issue
For years, the AfD has advocated a close relationship with Moscow. However, the realization has now prevailed that after February 24th one can no longer speak as before, said a participant in the parliamentary group retreat. It is a war of aggression that violates international law and must be condemned.
At the meeting, which lasts until Saturday, the topics of energy prices and Corona will also be discussed.
The judgment of the Cologne Administrative Court on the possible observation of the AfD by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution is not explicitly on the agenda. Still, it’s a topic of conversation. Here it was said by participants that nobody was happy about it. It was a “political sham trial, the verdict of which was already clear”. “We will wait for the justification and then appeal.”
According to Brandner, a working group will deal with the effects of the verdict on the group, for example on the employees. dpa
