The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated this Friday the orange alert (significant risk) in the province of Girona (Catalunya), where an accumulated rainfall of 40 liters per square meter in one hour or 100 liters in 12 hours is expected. .
These torrential rains have already caused around thirty vehicles to be swept away early in the morning by water on a boulevard in Cadaqués, in the Girona region of Alt Empordà.
AEMET has specified that the most affected area is the Empordà region, and although intensities of 40 liters have been observed in less than an hour, the trend is that it will begin to subside throughout the morning. In this way, the orange warning in Girona will be lowered to a yellow warning (risk) starting at 10:00 on the peninsula, when an accumulated rainfall of 20 liters in one hour is expected in points of the Empordà, pre-coastal, southern coast and Pyrenees, especially in the easternmost area.
For the weekend, although more anticyclonic weather is expected, instability still remains in some areas of the northern Mediterranean but with a tendency to subside on Sunday, so it is recommended not to let your guard down and be attentive to the indications of emergency.
With the orange alert there is a significant meteorological risk, with a certain degree of danger for usual activities, and with the yellow alert there is no meteorological risk for the general population, although there is for some specific activity.
