Mexico City.– Throughout 2023, we witnessed notable technological advances that left a significant mark in the field of computer security. These advances became especially relevant in a global context where the threat of cyberattacks continued to increase.
According to Acronis, it is estimated that a company is currently the victim of a ransomware attack every 11 seconds. In Latin America, ESET's security report for 2023 revealed more than 25 thousand incidents of cyber attacks, which represents an increase of 26 percent compared to the previous year. This study also highlighted the prevalence of methods such as infection with malware, including ransomware.
In the specific case of Mexico, the country led in the number of attacks at the beginning of 2023, with 14 million cyberattacks recorded in the first quarter alone. However, by the end of the year, Mexico was among the 10 most attacked countries in the region.
In the field of technological advances, 2023 stood out for the developments in artificial intelligence (AI), which has been implemented in various crucial areas. This includes threat detection and prevention, vulnerability scanning, malware detection, and user behavior analysis.
However, it has also posed new risks by becoming a key tool for cybercriminals. AI facilitates the production of 'phishing' messages, an identity theft technique in which one pretends to be a trusted institution or person to trick the user and obtain confidential information. Additionally, it allows the creation of creative automation methods, such as online data collection.
Given the previous context, companies have increased their interest in strengthening their digital security systems. How to prevent an attack and create cybersecurity solutions that help protect their systems against various threats? What are cybersecurity best practices? What level of threat do new artificial intelligence tools represent?
These and other questions will be answered by cybersecurity management experts: Laura Jácome, CEO & partner of MaTTica; Luis Enrique Álvarez, Pirani's country manager in Mexico; and Sebastián Barrios, Sr VP of Technology at Mercado Libre, who will address the scope of new digital tools and the importance of promoting a culture of cybersecurity and data protection in the Cybersecurity Forum organized by Reforma and moderated by Miguel Pallares.
Don't miss it next Thursday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. on reforma.com and on YouTube/GrupoReforma.
