In any case, ADO Den Haag is looking for a new trainer. The club from The Hague fired Ruud Brood at the end of February and then finished the season with 42-year-old Giovanni Franken for the group. However, Franken is not yet in possession of the UEFA Pro diploma that is necessary to be a trainer in professional football. He started that course in February, so he still has three-quarters of his academic year ahead of him.
The KNVB gave ADO and Franken dispensation to continue the last months of the Kitchen Champion Division with the former assistant coach of Brood. But that dispensation period has now expired. The club management has previously indicated that ADO wanted to announce who the new trainer would be by 1 June at the latest. That is why extensive discussions have been held with Kuyt in recent weeks, although this has not yet been confirmed from the club from The Hague.
It is also not yet clear whether the choice for Kuyt was dependent on a possible promotion to the Eredivisie. ADO was almost promoted tonight, but gave up a 3-0 lead in the last fifteen minutes of the play-off final against Excelsior. After it became 4-4 in extra time, Excelsior won the penalty series 7-8. Should Kuyt start his first job as head coach in professional football in The Hague, he will do so in the Kitchen Champion Division.
