The new HSL is part of the Mediterranean Corridor, a critical infrastructure for the region and the country, aligned with the European recovery strategy
Adif Alta Velocidad (Adif AV) gives a new impulse to the Mediterranean Corridor with the award of the works of the railway platform of the Totana section and of a new intermodal station that will replace the current one, in the Murcia-Almería High Speed Line.
The contract was awarded to the joint venture formed by Contratas y Ventas and Construcciones Sánchez Domínguez Sando, for an amount of 184,494,750 euros and has an execution period of 30 months. With this award, all the sections between Murcia and Almería are under construction or awarded, with the exception of the integration in the core of Lorca. This action reaffirms the commitment of Mitma and Adif AV to the planning and development of the Mediterranean Corridor, with new actions that promote and advance the construction of this strategic infrastructure.
Description of the works
The awarded works will be carried out in a 9.9 km section that runs entirely through the municipality of Totana. The construction of a new intermodal station is planned to replace the current one. The new layout places the Totana station at kilometer point 227/690, about 500 m from the existing one.
The projected platform corresponds to a double track layout, suitable for mixed traffic (passengers and goods) and prepared for maximum speeds of 300 km/h. The section, given its length and its development through the peri-urban area of the town of Totana, entails numerous effects on service, supply, sanitation and irrigation facilities.

Advances in the Corridor
The Murcia-Almería High Speed Line is 200 km long. Between Murcia and Almería, the platform works for all the sections have been contracted or are in progress, with the exception of the integration section in Lorca (whose project is in the drafting phase).
The new HSL is part of the Mediterranean Corridor, a critical infrastructure for the region and the country, aligned with the European recovery strategy that directed its resources to projects that will promote the green and digital economy and contribute to the development of the industrial and productive fabric of the regions.
All these actions contribute to the achievement of different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as number 9, which has among its goals the development of reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructures, and 11, which seeks to promote accessible transport and sure.
