Adif has announced that this Monday normality will be restored in the circulation of Cercanías de Madrid and on the high-speed line with the Valencian Community and Murcia after 13,700 people were affected this Sunday by the cancellations and modifications of trains due to the derailment of a convoy without passengers on Saturday in the tunnel that connects the Atocha and Chamartín stations.
In this way, the trains that connect both communities with Madrid will begin or end their journey at the Madrid Chamartín Clara Campoamor station, after the work carried out by the Adif and Renfe maintenance teams to repair the infrastructure elements damaged by the departure. of axles of one of the cars of a train that was running empty, without passengers.
The work concludes that the unaffected track in the tunnel between Atocha and Chamartín meets the necessary safety conditions so that the companies that operate in this railway corridor can recover their routes with origin and destination at the Chamartín station.
This means the recovery of the normal operations of these trains, which, in general, have their head office in Madrid at the Chamartín terminal (with the exception of some trains to or from Murcia); as well as all the services provided by the railway operators. The Madrid Cercanías core is not affected by this incident, so all services will operate as planned.
Tunnel release
On the other hand, the tasks to remove the train that still remains inside the tunnel, preventing circulation on one of the tracks, will be resumed next weekend. Adif and Renfe have mobilized a special technical device to undertake this operation, which is particularly complex given the characteristics of the space in which it is carried out. After removing the material, it will be necessary to evaluate the condition of the road and proceed with its repair.
In accordance with this planning agreed upon by Adif with Renfe and the rest of the railway operators to maximize the capacity of the railway infrastructure from Monday to Friday, on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27, the trains between Madrid and the east of the peninsula would return on time, and only during the weekend, to start or end your journey at Madrid’s Puerta de Atocha station.
Renfe Operation
According to what has been communicated, Renfe will not carry out any suppression of services and will provide the service with the usual programming with the exception of two services early in the morning between Madrid – Murcia (06:15) and Madrid – Valencia (06:30) that will depart from Atocha station. Likewise, the train that will leave Alicante at 05:52 will end its journey at 08:14 in Atocha.
Renfe will inform all passengers of both the restoration of the service and this circumstance through the usual information channels.
