Journalist, writer and former model Danuza Leão died last night (22), at Clínica São Vicente, in Gávea, south of Rio de Janeiro. She was 88 years old and was hospitalized for respiratory problems.
Born in Itaguaçu, Espírito Santo, she moved with her family at the age of 10 to Rio. Sister of singer Nara Leão, now deceased, she was married to journalist Samuel Wainer, founder of the extinct newspaper Última Hora. She was also married to the composer and chronicler Antônio Maria and to the journalist Renato Machado.
Danuza was a professional model in Paris and became the biggest party promoter in nightclubs in Rio de Janeiro. She was a columnist for the newspapers Folha de São Paulo and Jornal do Brasil and a contributor to telenovelas for Rede Globo.
A descendant of Italians and indigenous people, Danuza is the author of books such as In the room with Danuza, appearances are deceiving and Almost everything.
In 1992, it achieved great editorial success with In the Room with Danuza. In 2006, he released his autobiography called Almost everything.
The journalist is the mother of the plastic artist Pinky Wainer, the late journalist Samuel Wainer Filho and Bruno Wainer, businessman in the film distribution business, and grandmother of actor Gabriel Wainer.
Throughout her career, Danuza has worked in Earth in Trance, a 1967 Brazilian film, scripted and directed by Glauber Rocha. There is still no information about the burial.
