Mexican actress Silvia Pinal, the last diva of national cinema, died this Thursday at the age of 93, after being admitted to a hospital in Mexico City for several days due to a urinary infection, her relatives reported.
The Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico confirmed on its social networks the death of the leading actress Silvia Pinal.
“With a career that spanned more than six decades, he participated in more than 60 films and plays. His legacy endures as a fundamental pillar of cinema, theater and television in Mexico. Rest in peace,” he said.
Actress, businesswoman, producer, television presenter and even politician, Pinal, born on September 12, 1931 in Guaymas, in the northern state of Sonora, leaves a legacy of almost 60 years.
Pinal was recognized for her extensive work in cinema, theater, television and cabaret and palenque shows, although it was with the film ‘Viridiana’ by Spanish director Luis Buñuel, that she achieved international recognition.
Together with Buñuel, he created a trilogy: ‘Viridiana’ (1961), ‘The Exterminating Angel’ (1962) and ‘Simon of the Desert’ (1964), films that challenged the social and religious norms of the time.
It was with the Spanish that Pinal managed to show his ability to play complex characters, which marked the solid career he built in Mexican cinema.
In addition, ‘Viridiana’ received the highest award at the Cannes Film Festival, the Palme d’Or, an award that led Pinal to be recognized worldwide.
Her talent was also demonstrated in the theater, where she starred in hits such as ‘Hello, Dolly’ and ‘Mame’. In addition, on television she became a renowned presenter and producer with her serial ‘Woman, real life cases’, which addressed relevant social issues and remained on the air for more than two decades.
Pinal thus became a symbol of Mexican culture and her last appearance occurred in 2022, when she was part of the cast of the play ‘Little Red Riding Hood ¡Qué onda con tu abuelita!’, where she performed in a wheelchair due to his advanced age and state of health.

The producer was also married to the Cuban actor Rafael Banquells (1947-1952), to the businessman Gustavo Alatriste (1961-1967), to the Mexican-Venezuelan singer Enrique Guzmán (1967-1976) and to the politician Tulio Hernández Gómez (1982). -1995).
From these marriages were born the actress Silvia Pasquel, the singer Alejandra Guzmán and her brother Luis Enrique, and Viridiana Alatriste, who died in a car accident at a young age.
His descendants are completed by his granddaughter, the singer and actress Stephanie Salas, and his great-granddaughters, the model Michelle Salas, daughter of the Mexican singer Luis Miguel, and the model and actress Camila Valero, as well as Frida Sofía, daughter of Alejandra Guzmán.
