Russian theater and film actress Evgenia Brik died after an illness at the age of 41. This was reported on Friday, February 11, by journalist Katerina Gordeeva.
The actress’s diagnosis has yet to be revealed.
Brick died on February 11 in the United States. According to Gordeeva, she did not want anyone to know about her illness. “I think it would be unpleasant for her if they began to discuss the details,” she wrote on the social network. The representative of the actress Elena Bragina confirmed her death, noting that Brik did not die due to the coronavirus. Bragin did not name the cause of death, explaining that she did not know the details. A source TASS reported that the actress was undergoing treatment in Los Angeles.
The actress has a 12-year-old daughter
Evgenia Brik married director Valery Todorovsky, son of the People’s Artist of the RSFSR and Oscar nominee Pyotr Todorovsky, in 2006. In 2008, the family moved to Los Angeles. There, a year later, in September 2009, their daughter Zoya was born. In 2014 Brik gave interview Hello! magazine, in which she said that Los Angeles is a good place to raise a child. She said that she comes to Moscow only for shooting.

The actress is known for such films as The Geographer Drank His Globe Away, Christmas Trees 1914, Stilyagi and Northern Lights. In Stilyagi, a 2008 musical staged by Todorovsky, she played the role of Katya, a Komsomol member, for which she received an MTV award in the Best Movie Villain of the Year nomination. Also, thanks to the “Hipsters”, the actress was nominated for the Nika Award for Best Supporting Actress. In the drama The Geographer Drank His Globe Away, she played the German teacher Kira Valerievna.
Film director Alexander Veledinsky admitted that he was shocked by the news of Brik’s death. “I can’t even talk right now. I’m in complete shock, I just found out myself. I just can’t speak. Sorry,” he said.
In addition, Evgenia Brik starred in the films Friday, The Dark World: Equilibrium, Mistresses, S.S.D. and Odessa, as well as in the series Turkish March, Matryoshka, Thaw, Adaptation and Optimists. In addition to her film career, she performed at the Sovremennik Theater.
