Receives the special prize of the brain film festival Brain Film Fest and is presented as “testimony of a disease that robs you of being”
The actress Carme Elías, 71 years old, announced this Saturday that she suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. She revealed it when she received the Brain Film Fest Special Award during the closing ceremony of this film festival about the brain at the Center de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB). The event was attended by the Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, among other authorities.
After collecting the award, which was also presented to him by the actress Silvia Marsó, Elías has reported that he was shooting when he began to notice the first symptoms of the disease -which he called unmentionable- and the first medical tests were carried out: «Suddenly everything stops and you know you’re headed for nothing,” he mused.
In his speech he wanted to present himself as “testimony of a disease that has no going back yet. That there is no palliative cure, yet. That locks you up at home. That he has no hope of recovery, yet. That steals your being. What does an unknown later mean in the life of those who suffer from it».
