American actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed a camerawoman just outside Santa Fe on the film set of a new western in which he plays a leading role. The authorities of the state of New Mexico announced this in the night from Thursday to Friday, report American media. The director of the feature film was injured.
Police are investigating how the accident could have happened. The 63-year-old actor used a firearm as a prop on the set of the film Peace. It’s unclear if bullets were accidentally placed in the prop or if something was in the barrel that struck the two crew members. According to the American entertainment site TMZ there should have been blanks in the firearm.
Camerawoman Halyna Hutchins (42) was taken to the hospital in New Mexico immediately after the shooting, where she died shortly afterwards. It is not yet clear how Joel Souza (48), the injured director, is doing. The Santa Fe County Police Department in New Mexico says no charges have been made so far and no one has been arrested.
