Activision Blizzard had three years to hire a female figure.
There California passed a law in 2019 that boards must have at least three women by the end of 2021, but Activision Blizzard failed to meet this deadline. And what’s more, he’s blaming the acquisition of Microsoft despite having nearly three years’ notice.
In Activision Blizzard’s latest annual report, the company acknowledges that it missed the deadline with the new California law, having only two women on its board of ten out of three required. He said the reason is due to the acquisition of Microsoft which will end in 2023.
“To meet this requirement and improve the diversity of our Board of Directors, the Company retained a research firm and began interviewing additional potential female executives in 2021.“Activision Blizzard wrote in a statement.”However, as the Company’s current directors would cease to continue serving on our board of directors upon completion of the proposed transaction with Microsoft, we were unable to conclude the process in 2021. We will continue our efforts to appoint a new female director“.
The law was passed on January 1, 2019, and at the time the Activision Blizzard board had Reveta Bowers and Elaine Wynn, the only two women. Wynn left the following year but was quickly replaced with Dawn Ostroff, but she was unable to hire more women in that time frame.
