Spectacular Sparky is a tribute to the pets of the 90s and will arrive this year on PC and Nintendo Switch.
We have been receiving a good amount of surprises for several days in terms of pixel aesthetics indies and classic cut are concerned. The sequel to Axiom Verge or the return of Metal Slug through a new prism are good examples of this. Today we meetSpectacular Sparky, the new action platform game developed by FreakZone Games and published by Nicalis. The game has been presented with a powerful trailer that shows us its frantic action. A platformer with a traditional cut and a retro aesthetic that draws for its design from the classics of arcade halls and the 16-bit generation: pixel-art design and a color palette reminiscent of Sega Mega Drive.
It is a tribute to the games of the 90sThe style of play is that of a classic “Run and gun“in which we will have to advance in horizontal scroll while we dodge the different platforms and destroy everything that comes our way. The game also has boss battles huge in the style of the titles of the time. All the aesthetics and sound section is a tribute to the games of the 90s, with super saturated colors, scenarios full of spikes, lava, saws and a soundtrack that seems to be taken from the 16 bits of Sega.
The game introduces us to Sparky, an intergalactic bounty hunter who has the ability to pass through objects and use his ears to “space rabbit“To go further with his jumps. He has an entire arsenal of weapons to defeat his enemies as he seeks to take down one boss after another. Its developers define it as”a modern tribute To the golden age of white-gloved pets from the 16 bit“.
It will have a multitude of story scenes with different characters, five worlds with 24 levels and each of them with a battle against a final boss. Five types of weapons including blasters, flamethrowers and missiles. Five vehicles that Sparky will be able to pilot, in addition to five levels of difficulty that will go from “Supercasual” to “Supernightmare”. The game will also feature three different game modes.
It will be available on PC and Nintendo Switch on October 20 of this year. Remember that this year the return of Shovel Knight will also arrive on PC and Nintendo Switch with Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon, another of the great indie proposals based on the classics of the 90s.
