ACS and ACCIONA have been finalist in two competitions in Australia to lift a transmission line and electrical substations for 1.1 billion Australian dollars (660 million euros).
This is the Hunter project, through which the state of Nueva Wales del Sur hopes to connect the remote areas where renewable energy generation plants are found with the entire metropolitan environment of Sydney.
The project implies the construction of a new 500 kilowolt air transmission line (KV) of approximately 100 kilometers, between Bayyswater, in Upper Hunter, and Olney, in Lower Hunter, to connect the existing 500 kV transmission lines already operated by Trawn, the private company that manages public electricity assets in this state .
The public company in charge of renewable energy areas, Energyco, has already chosen the finalists, who will be commissioned, on the one hand, of Build the transmission line, and on the other, to build the substations.
In this sense, the Spanish and ACS, with a long career in Australia, have qualified for both contracts separately. In the first they will compete against two other companies (Downer and Gamuda) and in the second only against one (consolidated Power Projects).
While Action goes to the offer in a ‘joint venture’ with the local company Genus Group, ACS does it through companies belonging to its CIMIC subsidiary, such as UGL and CPB in the case of the transmission lines, and only with UGL in the substations.
The authorities of Nueva Wales del Sur, the most populous state in Australia, foresee that the construction of this project begins in 2026, with the objective that the works conclude in 2028.
