One step away from the first victory
There is great sporting regret for Pedro Acostavery close to what could have been his first success in MotoGP in the Motegi Sprint race. Starting from pole position, also in this case the first of his career in the premier class, the Spanish rookie almost entirely dominated the short Japanese race, with a pace that was difficult to sustain even for the two factory Ducati riders.
Confidence for the long race
However, with four laps to go, the 20-year-old lost control of his KTM, slipping and postponing his chances of victory until the next races, perhaps already the one scheduled for tomorrow at 07:00 Italian time: “Competitions are like that – commented Acosta a Sky Sports MotoGP – we’ll see tomorrow. Today we had a really strong pace and that’s why I think we can be calm for tomorrow“.
Reasons to continue believing
A natural sadness for the failed mission mixed with good confidence for tomorrow’s race for the characteristics of the KTM: “For us the long race is easier than the sprintbut it is also true that no one has tried the medium tyre – he admitted – we’ll see what kind of tires the others bring. We are doing very well in braking, in the last four races we have improved a lot seeing that we were very competitive in the two tests in Misano and in Indonesia, so we are closer to what we expected“.
My fault
Regarding the crash that excluded Acosta right at the best moment, #31 does not look for any kind of excuses, taking full responsibility for what happened: “The mistake in the fall was mine – he concluded – I went further off the line in turns 6 and 7, so it was my mistake.”
