The rookie is confident
The total domination imposed by Ducati probably doesn’t do justice to the amazing season he is having Pedro Acosta. The marvelous rookie is fifth in the Drivers’ standings, ahead of the expert Brad Binder, and last Sunday he drove a sensational race, finishing in second position behind only the elusive Jorge Martin.
Acosta is convinced that he can repeat himself again this weekend at Motegi, a ‘stop&go’ track that should be perfect for the characteristics of the RC16 in acceleration and braking: “I think Japan will be a good track for usI have always been competitive at Motegi in Moto2, and our bike should work well on this track, considering last season’s results. We feel good and confident after the excellent result obtained in Mandalika, so we will try to maintain this momentum, trying to be competitive already on Friday and then we will see what our chances will be.”
A year ago Brad Binder was second in the Sprint behind Jorge Martin, the race was then interrupted prematurely due to heavy rain. Rain could also characterize this edition as underlined by the GasGas Tech3 team manager Nicolas Goyon: “Stopping the bike at Motegi is a challenge, but it is one of the strong characteristics of our bike, which has achieved good results in the past on this track. Pedro Acosta is in great shape, I’m sure he will find a way to lap quickly on this track. We have some uncertainty regarding the weather, with the possibility of rain, but I believe that all the ingredients are there for a great result.”
