Three a bear cub fell under a train on Monday in Mänttä-Vilppula’s Kolho in Pirkanmaa, informs the police of Inner Finland.
According to the report received by the police, the mother bear had first crossed the track about 500–1,000 meters before the cubs that followed, who were run over by the train.
About two hours after the accident, two dead bears were found on the train track and one dead bear cub was found on the track bed.
No observations were made of the mother bear.
Accident happened late Monday evening on the Orivesi–Haapamäki railway section in Mänttä-Vilppula Kolho. The train was heading from the direction of Orivesi towards Haapamäki.
The exact age of the bear cubs could not be ascertained at the scene. The puppies will be sent to the Food Agency for examination, the police say.
According to the police, the mother bear was not injured in the situation. So there is no threat of an injured bear being a danger to people.
