Accidents | New charges for the devastating train crash in Greece

A total of four people have now been charged over the train crash, which was the worst in Greek history.

In Greece charges have been brought against three railway officials for last week’s disastrous train accident, says a legal source.

One train dispatcher and two station managers are suspected of causing death and injury as well as malfunctions related to railway traffic.

Charges had already been brought against the station manager of Larissa station, which is located near the accident site.

Over On Wednesday, 50,000 people took part in demonstrations across Greece over the train crash, and thousands of workers also walked out of their jobs in protest.

In some places, the demonstrations turned into violent clashes between the police and the demonstrators.

At least 57 people got killed a week ago on Tuesday, when a passenger train and a freight train collided on the section between Athens and Thessaloniki near the city of Larissa. In the protests of the last few days, the demonstrators have blamed the negligence of the authorities and the railway company for the accident. The train accident was the worst in Greek history.

It has been reported that there were about 350 people on the train, many of whom were young students.
