On the morning of Tuesday, June 11, a tragic road accident shook the south of the Mexico Cityspecifically in Tlalpan Viaduct at the height of San Buenaventura Street, in the Tlalpan mayor’s office.
A water pipe crashed into three trees, resulting in the death of two people and leaving one injuredcausing great road chaos in the area.
The incident occurred during rush hour, when the pipe deviated and violently collided with the trees located in the median that divides the center lanes from the side lanes.
Witnesses described the impact as very strong, which caused traffic interruption and a considerable traffic jam at Viaducto Tlalpan.
Police from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City and personnel from the Rescue and Medical Emergency Squadron (ERUM) quickly arrived at the scene to help those involved.
According to an SSC information card, operators at the Command and Control Center (C2) South alerted officers about the struck white pipe. The agents activated security protocols and requested emergency services.
Survivor is serious
Upon arriving at the scene, ERUM paramedics assessed three men. Unfortunately, two of them were declared dead at the scene, while the third had severe head trauma and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The accident caused a significant impact on traffic, especially for motorists traveling from Mexico-Cuernavaca to the Peripheral Ring.
Traffic authorities implemented cuts and detours to facilitate rescue efforts and cleaning the area. Drivers were advised to find alternate routes and avoid the affected area.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident. Forensic reports and analysis are expected to provide more details about the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
