The accident occurred around 4.30 in the morning, while the worker was carrying out an operation on behalf of RFI.
It is not the first time that a similar tragedy has happened, unfortunately, and we find ourselves talking about an i againaccident at work and on the tracks. We remember very well the episode of just over a year ago in which three workers in Brandizzo were hit by a train, one of whom was very young, only 22 years old, and died instantly. What happened tonight is another very serious episode.
His name was Attilio Franziniwas 47 years old and resident in Formia, in the province of Latina. The worker tragically lost his life in an accident that occurred during the night in San Giorgio di Piano, in the province of Bologna. The 47-year-old was a specialized technician for Salcef, a Roman company that carries out maintenance work on railway lines under contract from the Italian Railway Network (RFI).
The accident occurred around 4.30 in the morning, while the worker was carrying out an operation on behalf of RFI. According to a first reconstructionit seems that at the time of impact the worker was outside the area where the work was in progress. In the works area, at that moment, the movement of trains had been correctly communicated and suspended. An explanation is sought for the absurd and dramatic event.
The exact dynamics of the accident are still below investigation by the Railway Police, while RFI is also carrying out its checks. Franzini was hit by an Intercity traveling on the Rome-Trieste route, a vehicle which was subsequently able to continue its journey after 7.30 in the morning.
The practice according to which larger companies once again contract out small jobs and interventions, according to some, overshadows the quality and safety of the interventions themselves. Nicola Fratoianni, of Alleanza Verdi-Sinistra, commented on the story on Facebook: “A contract worker was hit by a train along the Bologna-Venice. Once again we witness the tragic loss of an external worker. It’s a script that sadly repeats itself.”
