The statistical figures revealed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai, under the title “Unprecedented Growth in the Higher Education Sector in Dubai,” indicate that the five most prominent university majors that attract students in international higher education institutions in Dubai are “Business Administration” and “Business Administration.” “Information Technology,” “Engineering,” “Media and Design,” and “Humanities.”
Specialists believe that the choices of university specializations required in the labor market support the chances of students enrolled in them to quickly obtain suitable job opportunities immediately after graduation, and thus the role of schools is highlighted in enhancing interest in academic guidance for students and providing them with experiences and information that show them the specializations on offer and the future professions that they need. Academic Dr. Mohamed Ahmed said, “Choosing an academic major is one of the most difficult decisions facing students who are at the gates of the university stage. Ahmed called on the students’ families not to oblige their children to select specific specializations to study at the university level, for the sake of merit or that they are the best from the family’s point of view, without taking into account the student’s academic desires and psychological preparations to study this or that specialization, in addition to his scientific abilities that help him excel in the specialization. Educational expert Noura Al Muhairi stressed the need to take the student’s passion for the future job into consideration when choosing a major, as it will be the primary motivation for good academic achievement during the university education journey.
She pointed out that there are studies that have proven that people who are passionate about their field of study succeed in the long term and are happy with their jobs, as they tend to put more effort into their daily work and enjoy a high satisfaction rate.
Al Muhairi added that the student in the secondary stage needs guidance and support from the family and school to determine the appropriate choice, according to his academic abilities and personal desires, because it is often not easy for him to make a good choice for several reasons, including lack of awareness and inability to make the right decision.
She pointed out that the school must play several roles to guide students in choosing their university majors, including providing information about local and international educational options, including the various academic programs and their requirements, and the local and international universities and colleges available to them, and then analyzing the students’ abilities and interests to help them in choosing future majors. . Hala Hatamleh, Director of Research at the International Consulting Group, said that the clear trends in the labor market to rely on artificial intelligence require the necessary academic qualification with the skills that make the graduate capable of dealing with the requirements of new jobs or the jobs that will be created in the future.
