The AC Milan wants to sign a new central defender in the current transfer period. Most recently, the Rossoneri were behind Mohamed Simakan from Racing Strasbourg – now it’s moving too Chelseas Fikayo Tomori targeted by the Italian league leaders.
Behind Alessio Romagnoli and Simon Kjaer, Milan’s central defense is getting thin. Home grown Matteo Gabbia, nominally first backup, is currently out due to an injury. Behind them Stefano Pioli had to rely on the young Pierre Kalulu, a trained right-back. Leo Duarte was handed over to Istanbul Basaksehir this week, Mateo Musacchio no longer plays a role in the Milanisti’s plans and is supposed to leave the club.
Therefore, a new defender is at the top of Paolo Maldini and Co.’s wish list.
Mohamed Simakan has been the preferred candidate for some time. But Milan is not alone in their interest in the highly talented French – alongside BVB and Borussia Mönchengladbach, RB Leipzig is the main competitor for the Italians in transfer poker. Even with Dani Olmo and Dominik Szoboszlai, the Red Bulls had beaten the seven-time Champions League winner.
In order to be prepared for all eventualities, Milan is now targeting an alternative. According to the English telegraph the Rossoneri would also consider signing Fikayo Tomori, the young Englishman is on loan from Chelsea for 18 months.
Tomori is said to have been an issue in the fashion metropolis already last summer, and since then the 23-year-old’s situation at Stamford Bridge has deteriorated significantly. With Frank Lampard, the home grown in the defense center is only the fifth choice and may leave the club in January.
